Fatty Liver Pain: Should You Be Worried?

10:00 AM - September 05, 2015 by Steve Wanschers

People who have been diagnosed with fatty liver disease sometimes experience a vague pain in the upper right section of their abdomen, right beneath the ribcage. Although this pain is normal, it may be fatty liver pain.
Perhaps you have been examined by your doctor then, there is probably nothing to worry about. A liver test will reveal if you have fatty liver and further imaging studies will reveal the extent of the fatty liver. In addition, a liver biopsy will be necessary to rule out non-alcoholic steato hepatitis (NASH) or liver inflammation due to fatty liver disease. If you have not yet been examined by your physician, it is absolutely necessary to visit your doctor.
There are many liver conditions that produce pain, not just fatty liver disease. For instance, this pain may be due to scarring of the liver (fibrosis) or end-stage, advanced scarring of the whole liver (cirrhosis).

Causes of fatty liver

Fatty liver disease is often caused by obesity, cardiovascular disease, and activities such as smoking. People who are diagnosed with NAFLD or NASH are advised against smoking, as tobacco consumption is contra-indicative of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Apart from the overweight, anybody can acquire fatty liver disease if there is a family history of liver dysfunction. To be specific, fatty liver disease may emerge if an individual possesses the hereditary tendency for it.

The most reliable treatment for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) is regular exercise and dieting .These activities may seem too simple and innocuous to many people, but when combined can truly bring about great, positive changes in a person’s body. You can inquire from a licensed doctor and he will inform you that the most effective way to reduce fat in your liver is through rigorous and regular exercise.  The ideal amount of daily exercise is at least 20 minutes of cardio exercise, and 10 minutes of weight training which is just 30 minutes of your time.

The time you choose to exercise is up to you. Morning exercise is recommended, because it helps people to sleep at night, but if you do not have time in the morning, then by all means, perform your exercises at night.
Getting good results with dieting is easy, too. Avoid simple carbohydrates as much as possible, and stick to carbohydrate sources that are complex and nutritious.
In conclusion, if you can consume more vegetables than pasta, bread, or rice, then that will be an amazing beginning for you. If you are a diabetic, then a fatty liver diet will also benefit your other condition, as vegetables generally can really help to manage blood glucose levels as they are not digested immediately.

Reduce your intake of fruits to ½ cup daily. This is because of the sugar content of fruits (fructose likewise packs calories). The additional sugar can help you with your physical exercise.
